Bjorn's Story
Bjorn Hazelquist is a professional surfer that suffered a traumatic brain injury from a surfing accident in 2010. Unfortunately, he endured an absurdly long recovery, because neither he or his family could afford the medical treatment costs that are essential to a recovery for TBI. Most treatments for traumatic brain injury, such as Hyper-baric Oxygen Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, Neurofeedback, and others, are usually considered to be alternative treatments, and usually are not covered by insurance companies. This results in people being forced to go without medical treatments that can have incredibly positive and life changing effects. Our primary goal at Strength In Pain Foundation, is to provide assistance to individuals and families struggling with the costs of these TBI specific treatments.
"From February 2010 to July 2015, I dealt with excruciating pain in my head caused from my TBI. My quality of life during this time period was extremely low. The majority of my time was spent lying down in bed, because the pain in my head would not stop. I was simply existing, not living. In 2015, my family was finally able to afford for me to try Hyper-baric Oxygen Therapy. As soon as I did, the intense pain in my head that had debilitated me for half of a decade was gone. I'm incredibly thankful for my second chance at life. Which is exactly why I decided to found Strength In Pain Foundation. I don't want anyone dealing with a TBI to be forced to go without medical treatments for years on end like I was forced to do." -Bjorn Hazelquist Founder/President. www.instagram.com/bjornhazelquist/ |
